"How to Transform Your Overgrown Front Yard with Video: Ground Vegetation Removal and Makeover"

Updated: Mar 16

In this video we’re doing some ground vegetation removal. If you have any experience pulling weeds, you might think that pulling ivy is easy. But it’s not! As the ivy grows it develops deep root systems through your backyard, making it a pain to pull out. So why not just leave it to the pros? With over 20 years experience in the landscaping business and tons of happy customers, Schott Services has you covered. So if you’re interested in getting an ivy removal done, call or text us at 317-784-8760 or email us at HappyDumpTruck@gmail.com for a free estimate on price.

A sizable portion of our customer’s front yard is thick with ivy, and it’s only kept back by the front sidewalk, which it can’t cross. With a tug test we conclude that the ivy isn’t going anywhere without the help of our mini skid steer! The ivy zigzags throughout the whole zone in tight webs, so that if you try to pull, you need enough strength to pull up all the ivy at once. Needless to say, that’s not possible. So we’ll avoid the whole problem and just use our mini skid steer. Similar to how we do shrub removals (and there is a shrub here that we have to remove) we’re going to use a root grapple to tug out all the pesky weeds. This attachment on our Vermeer 925 mini skid steer won’t have any problems yanking out all the ivy.

To clear out the ivy, we slide the grapple underneath the bed of roots and yank up with the skid steer. Then we deposit the ivy in our truck. It’s as easy as combing your hair, except when you comb your hair, it doesn’t fall out. (I hope!) In about ten minutes, the whole area is clear of ivy and other roots, as well as that one bush that we needed to remove. There’s one other zone that we remove ivy from—the side of the house. This goes off without a hitch, and we move on to smoothing out the freshly clear earth.

With the leveler attachment we zigzag back-and-forth through the property to smooth it out. After all, pulling ivy does leave the ground rather rough. Call, text, or email us for a free estimate on the price of an ivy removal or other landscaping job.
