Why Honeysuckle Removal is a Schott Services Staple

You might be asking yourself, “More honeysuckle removal? Is that all John Schott does?” While it’s not our only job, it is definitely a staple here at Schott Services.

Honeysuckle is notorious for its aggressive growth. It can take over a property before you even notice it’s out of control. That’s where we come in. Whether it's one bush or an entire fencerow, we have the specialized equipment to reclaim your yard.

Step 1: Clearing the Foliage

First, we have to clear the massive "wall of green" to reach the source. We use our mini skid steer equipped with a root grapple. This tool allows us to grab large swathes of foliage and pull them out for easy hauling.

During this particular job, we hit a literal snag: old, bent metal fence posts hidden deep in the brush. These can jam up the equipment, so we took the time to hunt them down and remove them safely before getting back to work.

Step 2: The Secret Weapon for Stumps

Once the foliage is cleared, you’re left with stubborn stumps and extensive root systems. This is where our stump bucket shines. By wedging the attachment deep under the root ball, we can pop stumps out of the ground in seconds. It’s a massive time-saver for us and a cost-saver for our customers.

Step 3: Tackling the "Honeysuckle Monster"

The biggest challenge of this job was a massive bush looming over a neighbor’s fence. It was as large as all the other bushes combined! To protect the neighbor’s property, we traded the heavy machinery for a chainsaw.

By manually cutting the branches, we maintained total control, ensuring not a single twig fell into the neighbor’s yard. It’s a delicate process, but our "neighbor-first" approach ensures the job gets done without any headaches for the folks next door.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

After the last stump was pulled, we didn't just leave a hole in the ground. We used our leveler attachment to smooth the soil, followed by high-quality grass seed and mulch to jumpstart the new lawn.
